All Natural. All For You.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and How Does It Work With Microneedling?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy utilizes a concentrated dose of platelets derived from the patient’s own blood to promote healing in a targeted area. This treatment consists of two main components: plasma, the liquid part of the blood, and platelets, which play a crucial role in tissue repair and regeneration. Platelets contain growth factors that stimulate cell renewal, enhancing the body’s natural healing process.
To create PRP, a small sample of the patient’s blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge, where it is spun to separate the platelets from other blood components. This results in a platelet-rich concentrate, which is then used for treatment. Since PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood, the procedure is both safe and well-tolerated. It can be used as a standalone therapy or in combination with other treatments for enhanced results.
PRP is particularly beneficial when paired with microneedling. During the procedure, a microneedling device creates tiny microchannels in the skin, allowing PRP to penetrate more effectively. This combination boosts collagen and elastin production at deeper skin levels, improving overall skin texture and firmness. Microneedling with PRP is an effective solution for reducing the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture. It can also help diminish stretch marks. By integrating PRP with microneedling, patients achieve superior skin rejuvenation compared to microneedling alone.
How Does PRP Work When Injected?
Who Is A Candidate for PRP Microneedling/PRP Injections?

Pre- & Post- Treatment Guidelines for Microneedling with PRP:
One Week Before Treatment:
-
Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning without protection.
-
Discontinue skincare products containing retinoids, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid.
-
Inform your provider if you are taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements, including aspirin, Coumadin, Plavix, fish oil, turmeric, ginger, cayenne pepper, vitamin E, garlic, ginkgo biloba, feverfew, grape seed extract, white willow, dong quai, or aloe.
-
If you have a history of cold sores or have been diagnosed with Herpes Simplex, notify your provider.
Day of Treatment:
-
A topical numbing agent will be applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
-
A small blood sample will be drawn and processed to extract PRP.
-
A microneedling device will be used on the treatment area, followed by the application of PRP to enhance absorption and effectiveness.
-
The procedure typically lasts between 30 to 45 minutes.
Post-Treatment Care:
-
Most normal activities can be resumed within 24 hours.
-
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and swimming for the first few days.
-
Follow the recommended post-procedure skincare regimen for the first 4-5 days to support healing.
-
Avoid direct sun, steam treatments, and exfoliative products for 1-2 weeks.
-
Mild swelling, redness, and occasional bruising may occur and typically subside within 3-5 days. To ensure proper healing, avoid irritating the skin during this time.
When Will I See Results?
Results from microneedling with PRP develop gradually as the body naturally produces collagen and repairs the skin. Initial improvements may be noticeable within two to three weeks, while more significant enhancements in pigmentation and texture typically appear around four to six weeks post-treatment.
The number of sessions needed depends on the specific skin concern being addressed. Mild texture irregularities often improve with two to three treatments, while deeper concerns, such as scarring, may require three to six sessions for visible results. To ensure optimal healing and collagen production, treatments are spaced approximately four weeks apart.
